La tan esperada Copa Mundial de Fútbol

El tan esperado mundial Sur África 2010, dio inicio este 11 de Junio.  La fase de grupos nos dio varias sorpresas, la derrota de España contra Suiza.  El empate del Tri contra Sur África en la inauguración. El mal momento por el que pasan la selecciones de Francia e Italia.  Pero hubo sorpresas como la selección de Eslovaquia, la de Japón y el dramático final de la selección de Estados Unidos.  Como siempre, los grandes Brasil, Argentina, Alemania y Holanda mostraron su poderío y fácilmente  calificaron a la siguiente fase. De las selecciones que no ofrecieren mucho fue la mayoría de los países africanos; solamente Ghana paso a la siguiente ronda. Honduras, Grecia, Costa de Marfil, Camerún, Argelia y RDP de Corea realmente no pudieron hacer mucho en su grupo y quedaron eliminados.

Muchos concuerdan en que esta fase es cuando realmente se juega el mundial porque el que gana sigue adelante y el que pierde a su casa. La fase de octavos, nos dio varios partidos que por decisiones arbitrales, marcaron el destino del partido. En el México contra Argentina el arbitro no marco un fuera de lugar y esto marcó el camino del Tri que perdió 3-1.
      En el Inglaterra contra Alemania el arbitro no marco por bueno un gol de los ingleses que significaba el empate. Por estas malas decisiones las dos selecciones quedaron eliminadas. España le gano a Portugal 1-0 y demostró un poco de esa selección que gano la Euro Copa. Holanda le gano a la revelación del torneo y derroto 2-0 a Eslovaquia. Brasil es Brasil y pasó por arriba de Chile 3-0, como siempre pinta para la final.

A Estados Unidos le toco contra Ghana y en tiempos extra, Ghana los derrotó.

Ningún equipo de nuestra zona CONCAF logró seguir adelante en este mundial. Los equipos de Sur America jugaron bien y Uruguay gano a una Republica de Corea que mostró al igual que los eslovacos muy buen futbol. El partido más emotivo y único que llego a tiempos extra y los penales fue el de Paraguay y Japón. Paraguay finalmente supero a los japoneses pero fue emotivo la entrega y carácter de los japoneses.

Este fin de semana nos dará excelentes partidos, Brasil contra Holanda que de seguro podría dar un finalista de este mundial.  Otro choque histórico es el de Argentina y Alemania que realmente se puede considerar como una final.
     España contra Paraguay que pone a dos equipos que finalmente pasan a esta ronda y el partido pinta para ser muy bueno. Finalmente, Uruguay enfrenta al único sobreviviente del continente africano Ghana y tendrá que demostrar su garra charrua para seguir en el certamen.  Los resultados de estos encuentros nos acercaran a la final de este mundial.

Estaremos al tanto de estos resultados y esperamos disfrutar de los partidos que nos llevarán a ver el próximo campeón del mundo. 

The Long Awaited Football World Cup

The long awaited South Africa 2010 Football World Cup kicked off this June 11. The groups’ phase has given us some surprises, Spain's defeat against Switzerland. Tri's draw against South Africa at the opening. The bad season suffered by the national teams of France and Italy. But there were surprises as the national team of Slovakia, Japan and the dramatic end to the U.S. team. As always, the great ones: Brazil, Argentina, Germany and Holland showed their power and easily qualified for the next phase. Of the teams that did not offer much was most African countries; only Ghana has advanced to the next round. Honduras, Greece, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Algeria and Korea DPR could not really do much in their group and were eliminated.

Many agree that this phase is when the World Cup is actually played because the winner goes on and the loser goes home. The knockout stage, gave us several games where arbitral decisions marked the destiny of the game. In the game Mexico vs. Argentina the referee did not call an offside which led the Tri team to a loss 3-1.

In the game England against Germany the referee did not allow a valid goal from the English, which would have meant a tie. Because of these bad decisions the two teams were eliminated. Spain beat Portugal 1-0 and showed a little of that team who won the Euro Cup.  Holland beat 2-0 the  revelation of the tournament, Slovakia Brazil is Brazil and advanced over Chile 3-0, as always, looks like a good candidate for the final.

The United States played against Ghana and in overtime, Ghana beat them.

No team in our CONCACAF was able to continue in this World Cup tournament.

The teams from South America played well and Uruguay won over  Republic of Korea who showed off, just like the Slovaks,  very good football. The most exciting game and the only one to get to overtime and shootout was the game Paraguay and Japan. Paraguay finally surpassed the Japanese; it was very exciting to see how the Japanese gave it all and their display of character.

This weekend will give us great games, Brazil vs. Netherlands that could secure a finalist in this World Cup. Another is the historical clash of Argentina and Germany that can be realistically considered as a final.
     Spain vs. Paraguay, two teams that finally got to this phase, their game looks like it should be very good. Finally, Uruguay faces the only survivor of the African continent: Ghana, Uruguay must demonstrate its Charrua claw to stay in the competition. The results of these confrontations takes closer to the end of this World Cup.

We will be watching the results of these games and hope to enjoy the matches that will take us to see the next world champion.
