Comienza el conteo hacia el 2011-Pensacola Pelican
Drop™
Ya comienza el la Costa del Golfo el conteo hacia el Pensacola Pelican Drop TM.  El 31 de Diciembre las calles de Downtown Pensacola se llenaran con juerguistas que vienen desde todo el país para estar en el conteo más singular de la Costa del Golfo con su icono gigantesco pelicano iluminado. Ahora en su tercer año de éxito, el Pelican Drop será anfitrionado por el Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) quien tiene la misión de hacer relucir las áreas públicas y estimular actividad económica en las tiendas, restaurantes, lugares de entretenimiento y hoteles del Downtown.
     Las festividades comienzan desde las 5pm el día de Año Viejo y continuaran hasta las 12:30am. A lo largo del evento El Pelicano gigante (14 pies, con alas expandidas 20 pies) estará posado sobre la celebración en una plataforma de 100 pies en la intersección de Palafox y Government. Aunque las calles Palafox y Government serán cerradas para transito, los restaurantes del área estarán abiertos y vendedores adicionales proveerán refrescos (no alcohólicos). Presentaciones en vivo en tres escenarios animaran el evento a través de toda la noche.
     La popular área de niños será expandida, esta incluirá un conteo especial para los niños a las 8pm con burbujas (bubble stomp) y confeti. A las campanadas de la medianoche la ciudad completa celebrara según cae El Pelicano entre fuegos artificiales y aun más confeti.
     Este evento clave en la Costa del Golfo es donde hay que estar para celebrar la despedida del Año Viejo. Mas de 40,000 juerguistas recibieron el 2010 en el Pelican Drop, la revista Southern Living incluirá el evento en su edición de Diciembre 2010. Restaurantes, tiendas y hoteleros locales reportaron un impacto positivo en sus estados financieros e incluso varios hoteles en el Downtown reportaron estar completamente llenos la noche de Fin de Año.
     El Pelican Drop TM y el CRA fueron otorgados el premio de Mejor Realce Cultural por el Florida Redevelopment Association por sus esfuerzos en realzar la comunidad local y por implementar destacados proyectos de crecimiento económico y programas.

Pensacola Pelican Drop™ - Countdown to 2011 Begins
The Gulf Coast is counting down to the 2010 Pensacola Pelican Drop™. On December 31 the streets of Downtown Pensacola will be filled with revelers from across the country counting down to 2011 with the Gulf Coast’s most unique New Year’s icon, a giant illuminated pelican. Now in its 3rd successful year, the Pelican Drop is hosted by the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) as part of the CRA’s mission to enliven public spaces and stimulate economic activity in downtown retail shops, restaurants, entertainment venues and hotels.
     Festivities kick off at 5 p.m. on New Year's Eve and continue until 12:30 a.m. Throughout the evening the giant Pelican (14 feet tall, with a 20-foot wingspan) is perched above the celebration on a 100-foot platform at the intersection of Palafox and Government Streets. Although Palafox and Government Street will be closed to traffic, area restaurants will be open and additional vendors will be providing refreshments (no alcohol sales). Live performances on three outdoor stages provide ongoing entertainment throughout the evening.
     The popular kids’ area will be expanded this year and will feature the special kids’ countdown at 8 p.m. with confetti and the “bubble stomp.” At the stroke of midnight, the whole city celebrates as the Pelican descends amidst fireworks and more confetti.
     The signature event is the Gulf Coast’s place to be on New Years Eve. More than 40,000 revelers rang in 2010 at the Pelican Drop, and Southern Living Magazine will include the event in their December 2010 issue. Local restaurants, shops and hoteliers reported a positive impact to their financial bottom line and several downtown hotels reported being completely booked on New Year’s Eve.
     The Pelican Drop™ and the CRA were recently awarded the Best Cultural Enhancement Award by the Florida Redevelopment Association for efforts in enhancing the local communities and for implementing outstanding economic growth projects and programs.
