Concurso de Ensayo de Ciudadania Americana Otorgará a Estudiantes y Profesores Hasta $5,000 y un Viaje a Washington, D.C.
La fecha tope para estudiantes de Escuela Superior y sus profesores para someter ensayos para el concurso del Bill of Rights Institute´s national "Being an American" se acerca rápidamente.  El concurso pide a los estudiantes compartir sus ideas en Cuidadania Americana contestando la pregunta: "Que valor cívico cree Ud. es el más esencial para ser un Americano?"
    El Concurso del Ensayo pide a los estudiantes pensar sobre los grandes valores cívicos en América. Animando a los estudiantes a considerar  y sopesar los valores Americanos, el ensayo sirve como una parte clave de la misión del  Bill of Rights Institute de educar a la gente joven sobre las palabras e ideas de los Fundadores de América, las libertadas garantizadas en nuestros documentos de Fundación y como nuestros principios de Fundación continúan afectando y formando una sociedad libre.
    Las sumisiones de los ensayos deben de ser recibidas a las 11:59 P.M. EST el 1 de Diciembre, 2010.  Los profesores deben de someter sus ensayos en linea  en www.BeingAnAmerican.org por una oportunidad para ganar premios de un fondo de un total de $115,000 y uno de los 54 viajes con todos los gastos pagados a la capital de la nación (conferidos a los profesores y a sus estudiantes). Material para ayudar con el concurso, incluyendo planes de lecciones que llenan los estándares académicos son proveidos sin costo a los profesores que quieran incorporar el tópico del ensayo en el aula.
    Los nombres de los tres ganadores de los premios en las nueve regiones del concurso serán anunciados en una Gala de Premios (Awards Gala) en Washignton, D.C. en la primavera de 2011. Eligibilidad:  Estudiantes en grados 9-12 que son ciudadanos Americanos o residentes legales y que atienden escuelas privadas, públicas, religiosas, o autónomas, o que son educados en sus casas o participan en un programa GED o escuela de correspondencia pero no son mayores de 19 años.  Bases militares y territorios de los Estados Unidos están también invitados a participar.

American Citizenship Essay Competition to Award Students and Teachers Up to $5,000 and Washington, D.C. Trip
Arlington, VA – The deadline for high school students and their teachers to submit essays for the Bill of Rights Institute’s national “Being an American” essay contest is fast approaching. The contest asks students to share their thoughts on American citizenship by answering the question: “What civic value do you believe is most essential to being an American?”
     The Essay Contest calls upon students to think about the greatest civic values in America. By encouraging students to consider and weigh American values, the essay contest serves as a key part of the Bill of Rights Institute’s mission to educate young people about the words and ideas of America's Founders, the liberties guaranteed in our Founding documents, and how our Founding principles continue to affect and shape a free society.
     Essay entries are due by 11:59 P.M. EST on December 1, 2010. Teachers must submit essays online at www.BeingAnAmerican.org for a chance to win cash prizes from a pool totaling $115,000 and one of 54 all-expenses paid trips to the nation’s capital (awarded both to teachers and their students). Supporting contest materials, including lesson plans meeting national academic standards, are provided at no cost to teachers who want to incorporate the essay topic into the classroom.
     The names of the top three prize winners in the nine contest regions will be announced at a special Washington, D.C. Awards Gala in the spring of 2011. The winners will also be treated to a tour of prominent national landmarks and will hear from a range of important voices on American citizenship. This year’s keynote address to the winning students will be given by FOX Business Host John Stossel and author and FOX News Commentator Juan Williams will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

ELIGIBILITY: Students in grades 9-12 who are U.S. citizens or legal residents and are either attending public, private, religious, or charter schools, being home-schooled, or participating in a GED or correspondence school program but are no older than 19 years of age. Military bases and U.S. territories are also invited to participate.
ESSAY LENGTH: No more than 750 words.

CASH PRIZES: Ten cash prizes per region will be awarded to students and to the teachers of the winning students:

WASHINGTON, D.C. TRIP: The top three winners (first, second and third places) from each region, their teacher, and a guardian will be awarded an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. in the Spring of 2011.
