Los Blue Angels despegan por última vez este año |
Blue Angels lift off for last time this year By Joslyn Rosado On Saturday Nov. 12, Pensacola’s Blue Angels hosted their annual homecoming show at the Naval Air Station Pensacola. The event began at 9 a.m. with performances by Otto the helicopter, super shockwave jet truck, the Geico skytypers and others, ending with a Blue Angels performance. The Blue Angels homecoming show was also in celebration of 100 years of naval aviation. The area had many planes from the different military branches on display. Some were open for attendants to walk through, view and ask questions about. There were also vendors selling food and souvenirs. It was Amy Laguna’s first time seeing the Blue Angels perform and the only part she didn’t like had nothing to do with the performance. “My least favorite part of the show had to be the limited free seating,” Laguna said. One of the performances before the Blue Angels was a helicopter sponsored by Red Bull that is customized to flip over. “I was amazed with the amazing techniques a helicopter could do,” said Dione Reece. “I wanted to go to the Naval Base and see the Blue Angels in action.” Going to the air show was a learning experience and an entertaining experience. “It was great,” Laguna said. “I work on a naval base that specializes in mine defense warfare, so it was interesting to visit and see a naval base that specializes in flight.” The Blue Angels have been flying since June 1946 and are flown by Navy and Marine Corps jet pilots. According to the Blue Angels’ air show program, their mission is to enhance Navy recruiting. |
