National War Hero, Commander Everett Alvarez, Jr. At the National Naval Aviation Museum Pensacola, Fla.–October 13, 2011–As part of the Centennial of Naval Aviation, the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation will present “Discovery Saturday” with National War Hero and former Navy Commander Everett Alvarez, Jr., at 10 a.m. on Sat., Oct. 22 at the National Naval Aviation Museum. Commander Alvarez, the first Navy pilot shot down over North Vietnam, will speak on his experiences as a Prisoner of War during the Vietnam War. In his powerful presentation, Alvarez will relate the story of his capture and physical, mental and spiritual endurance which led to his repatriation after nearly nine years of captivity. Alvarez will sign his book, Chained Eagle, following his presentation sponsored by Grantham University. “Discovery Saturday” is FREE and open to the public. The National Naval Aviation Museum features FREE admission and a full slate of events throughout the year.
