Presentación Maya en Pensacola
|
Mayan Presentation in Pensacola On April 21, Maria del Carmen Tuy Tococh, a Guatemalan professional educator on Mayan culture, will present an explanation of the Mayan Calendar at the Pensacola State College Hagler Auditorium. The presentation is free to the public and will begin at 6 p.m. Some theories suggest that the world will end on December 21, 2012 (12/21/12) because they believe that this is the date that the Mayan calendar ends…but does it? Maria del Carmen is coming from her home in Guatemala to Pensacola to explain the Mayan calendar, it’s symbols, and how to read it. Maria del Carmen Tuy Tococh is a Kaqchiqel Maya and has performed Mayan ceremonies at San Francisco State and Berkley University annually for several years. She has been recognized by the State of California for “carrying on the traditions and wisdom of the Maya and for building cultural bridges between the Maya of Guatemala and the people.” This presentation is made possible by La Costa Latina Newspaper, the Pensacola State College Multicultural Committee, Consejo Maya Ticoj (a Mayan organization in the U.S.), and the University of West Florida Latino American Student Association (LASA). |
