Recordando al General Emiliano Zapata

Su nacimiento y juventud.
     El 8 de agosto de 1879, en el pueblo Anenecuilco, Estado de Morelos, México  nació  Emiliano Zapata Salazar. En su adolescencia, le toco sufrir el despojo de las tierras de su familia por los propietarios de haciendas azucareras de la región quienes estaban protegidos por el Dictador Porfirio Díaz.
     Al cumplir los 20 años, tuvo problemas con las autoridades locales que lo obligaron a huir al Estado de Puebla donde trabajo amansando  caballos convirtiéndose así  en un extraordinario jinete.

La Revolución de 1910 y el  Ejercito del Sur.
     En 1909, el consejo de ancianos lo nombra Calpulelque “ el que resguarda la tierra” Apartir de ese cargo y durante diez años, Zapata  luchara no solo por la tierra de su pueblo sino por la de todos los  pueblos despojados en el país.
     El 20 de Noviembre de 1910 se une a la lucha armada convocada por el Sr. Francisco I. Madero, quedando al mando del Ejercito del Sur.
La traición
     El 10 de Abril de 1919 , El General Emiliano Zapata y su Estado Mayor ,fueron acribillados por las fuerzas federales que comandaba el Coronel Guajardo quien hábilmente  le había ofrecido realizar un pacto de adhesión a la causa revolucionaria. Cuando Zapata entraba a la hacienda de Chinameca en el Estado de Morelos, Guajardo ordeno fuego a sus soldados que  fingían rendirle los saludos y honores militares.
     Su cadáver fue expuesto en la plaza publica de la Ciudad de Cuautla , muy cerca del kiosco donde años atrás fue visto y aclamado por una multitud eufórica que  le aplaudía y le gritaba vivas, confundiéndose sus gritos  con el estruendo de los cohetes, las notas de las bandas de música, y el repique de las campanas de la iglesia…… El 10 de abril de 1919, la misma plaza recogía los sollozos contenidos de las mujeres que embozadas en sus rebozos se persignaban ante el cadáver,  los hombres hablaban en voz baja, se quitaban su gran sombrero de palma y cerraban los puños con fuerza.

     Emiliano Zapata Salazar, ha sido y será uno de los mas grandes hombres en la historia de México, su vida y  su obra, así como el impacto social que sigue teniendo en México y el mundo lo han convertido en un icono de las luchas sociales, sus facciones  recias de hombre mestizo, su figura gallarda de autentico charro mexicano, así como su espíritu indómito, motivan a propios y extraños a repetir sus palabras. ¡Tierra y Libertad¡

His birth and Childhood
     On August 8, 1879 in the town of Anenecuilco, Morelos, México Emiliano Zapata Salazar is born.  During his adolescence years he had to suffer the stripping of his family land by the owners of the sugar plantations in the region who were protected by the dictator Porfirio Diaz.
 When he was 20 years old he had problems with the local authorities which forced him to flee to Puebla where he worked training horses and became an extraordinary horseman.

The 1910 Revolution and the Southern Army
     In 1909 the Council of Elders named him Calpulelque "he who guards the land", since that appointment and during 10 years, Zapata would fight not only for the lands of his town but for the ones of all the towns in the country that had been stripped of theirs.
On November 20, 1919 he joins the armed fight formed by Mr. Francisco I. Madero, and he takes command of The Southern Army (Ejército del Sur).
The treason
     On April 10, 1919, General Emiliano Zapata and his staff, were gunned down by the federal troops led by Colonel Guajardo, who craftily had offered him a pact to join the revolutionary cause.  When Zapata entered the hacienda of Chinameca in the state of Morelos, Guajardo ordered his soldiers to fire while they were pretending to salute him and offer military honors.
His body was exposed in the public square of the City of Cuautla, very close  from the kiosk where  few years back, he was seen and acclaimed by an euphoric multitude who applauded and yelled vivas, confusing his shouts with the racket of the firecrackers, the musical notes of the bands and the ringing of the church bells.... On April 10, 1919 the same Plaza was picking up the subdued sobs of the women who covering their faces  with theirs shawls crossed themselves in front of the body, the men spoke in low voices, took off their large palm hats and made strong fists.
Zapata the Icon
     Emiliano Zapata Salazar, has been and will be one of the great men in the history of México, his life and his work and also the social impact he continues to have en México and the world have made him an icon of the social struggles, his strong facial features of a half caste, his gallant figure of an authentic Mexican charro, just as his untamed spirit, motivate his people and strangers to repeat his words.  ¡Land and Freedom!
