Tres transfusiones de sangre para el bebé Ricardo antes de que naciera
|
Three Blood Transfusions for Baby Ricardo Before He Was Even Born Parents preparing for the arrival of a new baby need lots of helping hands. At the Ronald McDonald House, those hands often belong to volunteers, staff, or community partners. Under the best circumstances, families also come equipped with a built-in support system of family members who also find a home-away-from home at the House. For Ricardo's clan, caring for him is definitely a "family affair." Ricardo is the fourth child born to this military family from Okaloosa County. He has three older sisters; one in college, and twins in high school, who will be able to help with his care. Everyone was thrilled to welcome him into the world. Mom, Dad and all of Ricardo's siblings spent a month at the House while they anxiously awaited his release from the hospital. Diagnosed with anemia, he was born at 31 weeks and had to have three blood transfusions before he was born. Mom says that one of the amazing things that they experienced while staying at the House was the selfless giving of the volunteers and donors always coming and going from the house, all with smiles and a willingness to listen to any family that needed comfort. She was amazed at the number of people preparing food and cleaning up after meals, all for people they didn't even know. She explains, "We arrived depressed, stressed out, and uncertain of what was going to happen. Just being able to talk to people going through similar situations and read the stories on the walls of the families who came before us gave us hope." The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Florida provides a home-away-from-home and a source of respite and resources for children and families of children suffering a medical crisis. They are community funded supported by donors and local volunteers and staff. Meal donations, community fundraisers, and event partnerships are all greatly needed and appreciated.
