Cecilia Muñoz Nombrada por Obama
El 10 de Enero, la Casa Blanca anunció que la actual Directora de Intergovernmental Affairs, Cecilia Muñoz, servirá como Director of the Domestic Policy Council. La Sra. Muñoz coordinará el proceso de establecer normas y supervisará la ejecución de la politica doméstica en la Casa Blanca.

‘’En los últimos tres años, Cecilia ha sido una consejera de confianza que ha demostrado buen juicio diariamente,’’ dijo el Presidente Obama. ‘’Cecilia ha hecho un trabajo extraordinario en favor de las familias de clase media y confio que ella traerá la misma decisiva dedicación a su nueva posición.’’
Cecilia Muñoz sirve al presente como Deputy Assistant al President and Director of Intergovernmental Affairs donde ella supervisa las relaciones de la Administarción de Obama con los gobiernos locales y estatales. Como Director of Intergovernmental Affairs bajo Valerie Jarett, la Sra. Muñoz encabeza una asociación entre gobiernos federales, del estado, locales y tribales que la revista Governing describe como ‘’más prominente y responsiva como nunca habia sido, ‘’mencionando alabanzas de oficiales locales y estales de todo el espectro politico. Bajo la dirección de Muñoz, esta asociación ha traido las voces de los oficiales locales electos y las gentes que ellos representan a la Casa Blanca en el desarrollo y ejecución de politicas para tratar retos locales en la economia, salud, ayuda en desastres, y la infraestructura de transporte, entre otros.
La Sra. Muñoz también encabeza los esfuerzos de la Administración para arreglar el quebrantado sistema de Migración para que le haga frente a las necesidades económicas y de seguridad de América en el siglo 21. Además. ella sirve como vice presidenta en la President Task Force en el status de Puerto Rico, en el cual no sólo ha trabajado para continuar dirigiendo las preguntas del status politico de la isla, sino tambié en asociación con oficiales locales para encarar preocupaciones inmediatas sobre trabajos y la economian, salud, educación, el medio ambiente, energia e infraestructura.

Antes de unirse a la Administración de Obama, Muñoz sirvió como Senior Vice President for the Office of Research, Advocacy and Legislation at the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), la organización más grande de derechos civiles Latinos. Ella supervisó la politica del personal de NCLR que cubre una variedad de tópicos importantes para los Latinos, incluyendo derechos civiles, empleo, pobreza ,problemas laborales de los trabajdores del campo. educacíón , salud, albergue e inmigración. Su área especializada de experiencia es politica de inmigración, en la cual ella trabajó durante 20 años en NCLR.

La Sra. Muñoz es la ex presidenta del Board of Center for Community Change y sirvió en el U.S. Programs Board of the Open Society Institute y el Board of Directors of the Atlantic Philanthropies y el National Immigration Forum. En Junio del año 2000, recibió a MacArthur Foundation fellowship en reconocimiento de su trabajo en inmigración y derechos civiles.

Cecilia Muñoz Appointed by Obama

On January 10, the White House announced that current Director of Intergovernmental Affairs Cecilia Muñoz will now serve as the Director of the Domestic Policy Council. Ms. Munoz will coordinate the policy-making process and supervise the execution of domestic policy in the White House.

“Over the past three years, Cecilia has been a trusted advisor who has demonstrated sound judgment day in and day out,” said President Obama. “Cecilia has done an extraordinary job working on behalf of middle class families, and I’m confident she’ll bring the same unwavering dedication to her new position.”
Cecilia Muñoz currently serves as Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of Intergovernmental Affairs where she oversees the Obama Administration’s relationships with state and local governments. As Director of Intergovernmental Affairs under Valerie Jarrett, Ms. Muñoz leads a partnership between federal, state, local, and tribal governments that Governing magazine described as “more prominent and responsive than it ever was,” citing praise from local and state elected officials from across the political spectrum. Under Muñoz’s leadership, this partnership has brought the voices of local elected officials and the people they represent into the White House in the development and execution of policies to address local challenges in the economy, health care, disaster relief, and transportation infrastructure among others.
Ms. Muñoz also leads the Administration’s efforts to fix the broken immigration system so that it meets America’s 21st century economic and security needs. In addition, she serves as Co-Chair of the President’s Task Force on Puerto Rico’s Status, which has worked to not only continue to address the question of the island’s political status, but also partnered with local officials to address immediate concerns over jobs and the economy, health care, education, the environment, energy, and infrastructure.

Prior to joining the Obama Administration, Muñoz served as Senior Vice President for the Office of Research, Advocacy, and Legislation at the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the nation’s largest Latino civil rights organization. She supervised NCLR’s policy staff covering a variety of issues of importance to Latinos, including civil rights, employment, poverty, farmworker issues, education, health, housing, and immigration. Her particular area of expertise is immigration policy, which she covered at NCLR for twenty years

Ms. Muñoz is the former Chair of the Board of Center for Community Change, and served on the U.S. Programs Board of the Open Society Institute and the Board of Directors of the Atlantic Philanthropies and the National Immigration Forum. In June 2000, she was awarded a MacArthur Foundation fellowship in recognition of her work on immigration and civil rights.
