| Las Agencias Estatales y la Legislatura se Asocian para hacer Conciencia a la Esclavitud Moderna: Tráfico Humano Tallahassee—El Departamento de Children and Families (Niños y Familias) de Florida y el Departamento de Justicia Juvenil otorgaron listones azules (cintas) a los legisladores el Miércoles 11 de Enero en observación del Dia Nacional de la Conciencia del Tráfico Humano. Los listones (cintas) tenian una tarjeta que describia el tráfico humano y la ayuda que la legislatura puede dar. Las tarjetas decian: ‘’El tráfico humano es una forma de esclavitud moderna. Afecta a niños, adultos, ciudadadanos Americanos, residentes y extranjeros por igual. Sobretodo, afecta a los niños de la Florida... Hay estatutos del estado que imponen fuertes castigos para los perpetradores del tráfico sexual juvenil; proyectos para ayudar a proteger a niños explotados continúan siendo presentados; y tanto la DCF y la DJJ están, explorando maneras de identificar y enfrentar las necesidades de esta población única. ‘’El año pasado, más de 400 niños de Florida fueron reportados como victimas potenciales del tráfico humano,-- dijo el Secretario Wansley walters, presidente del Human Trafficking Workgroup del Florida Children and Youth Cabinet. ‘’Esta estadistica me hace pensar cuantos niños más son traficados sin nosotros saberlo. Este mes y todo el año, vamos a continuar enviando el mensaje que nuestros niños no están a la venta.’’ El tráfico humano es una esclavitud moderna a travéz de trabajo forzado, esclavitud por deudas, servicios involuntarios, matrimonio forzado y explotación sexual comercial. Las estadisticas colocan a Florida como el tercer más popular destino de tráfico en el pais. La mitad de todas las victimas son niños. DCF y DJJ están comprometidos a esforzarse a abolir el tráfico humano en Florida. ‘’Nadie en este estado o en este pais deberia de sufrir este horrible trato,’’ dijo el Secretario David Wilkins, presidente del Florida Children and Youth Cabinet. ‘’Florida es un lider nacional en la lucha contra el tráfico humano y en la lucha para proteger a todos los niños. Con la ayuda del enforzamiento de la ley y del público, podemos castigar a los responsables y ayudar a las victimas.’’ El 31 de Enero, el Florida Children and Youth Cabinet observará el National Human Trafficking Awareness Month durante su sesión a la 1 p.m. en el Capitol Cabinet Meetin Room. State Agencies Partner with Legislature to Bring Awareness to this Modern-day Slavery Tallahassee—The Florida Department of Children and Families and the Department of Juvenile Justice handed out blue ribbons to legislators on Wednesday, January 11 in observance of National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. The ribbons are attached to cards describing human trafficking and how Legislators can help. The cards read: “Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery. It affects children, adults, U.S. citizens, residents, and foreign nationals alike. More specifically, it affects Florida’s children. … Already, state statutes provide greater penalties for perpetrators of child sex trafficking; bills to help protect exploited children continue to be filed; and, both DCF and DJJ are exploring ways to identify and address the needs of this unique population.” “In just the past year, more than 400 Florida kids were reported as potential human trafficking victims,” said DJJ Secretary Wansley Walters, chair of the Human Trafficking Workgroup of the Florida Children and Youth Cabinet. “That statistic just makes me wonder how many more children are being trafficked without our knowledge. This month and all year long, we will continue to send the message that our children are not for sale.” Human trafficking is modern-day slavery through forced labor, debt bondage, involuntary servitude, forced marriage, and commercial sexual exploitation. Statistics rank Florida as the third most popular trafficking destination in the country. Half of all trafficking victims are children. DCF and DJJ are committed to efforts to abolish human trafficking in Florida. “Nobody in this state or nation should endure this hideous treatment,” said DCF Secretary David Wilkins, chair of the Florida Children and Youth Cabinet. “Florida is a national leader in the fight against human trafficking and in the battle to protect all children. With the help of law enforcement and the public, we can punish those responsible and help the victims.” On Jan. 31, the Florida Children and Youth Cabinet will observe National Human Trafficking Awareness Month during its 1 p.m. meeting in the Capitol Cabinet Meeting Room. Statewide coalitions are also bringing awareness to the problem of human trafficking throughout the month of January.
