Bailetti: "El éxito es lo que te hace feliz"
Desde hace tres años, hemos publicado artículos en nuestra columna “Si Se Puede” sobre Alessandro Bailetti, AB, cuando se graduó de Pensacola State College.
     Es con gran orgullo que ponemos al día a los lectores, que Alessandro se ha graduado de la Universidad de Cornell con un grado de Licenciatura en Ciencias Biológicas con mención en Genética. Alessandro se graduó con altos honores, y ha sido aceptado en el Programa de Doctorado de la New York University (NYU).
     La familia de Bailetti es de Pisco Perú, ellos se mudaron a Pensacola cuando Alessandro tenía 16 años. Se graduó en la secundaria en Pensacola High School, en el año 2006
     "Mis padres son la razón por la que estoy aquí. Desde que era niño siempre me dijo que siempre debo hacerlo bien, y luego hacerlo mejor. Nunca olvides de dónde vienes y siempre valoraremos esto", dijo. "Mis padres han trabajado duro, a veces con dos o tres puestos de trabajo levantarse temprano y acostarse tarde en la noche, siempre en busca de las horas extraordinarias. Aprecio eso. Nunca se dieron por vencido. Nunca dejaron de trabajar. "
     Estímulos de sus padres y el ejemplo de lo que se han mantenido es lo que le permitió Alessandro sobresalir.
     "Yo no me considero ser súper inteligente ", sólo alguien que simplemente no se da por vencido, dijo Alessandro.
     Cuando se habla de sus amigos que son soñadores (los estudiantes inmigrantes indocumentados), dijo: A veces me sorprende porque no se sabe muy bien quiénes son, hasta que llegamos a hablar del futuro, de nuestros sueños.
     Estoy feliz de lo que hemos hecho y lo que han realizado mis compañeros, porque he ido a través de gran parte de ellos. La única diferencia son “los papeles”. Muchos de ellos son más inteligentes que yo, y tienen un fuego interior en ellos. Ellos me inspiran, dijo Alessandro. "Creemos que tenemos tantas cosas en contra de nosotros, pero cuando ves lo que se enfrentan, nos damos cuenta de que tenemos que dejar de quejarnos de lo que no tenemos y ser agradecidos por lo que tenemos y no darnos por vencido", añadió.
     Alessandro dice que se alegra de que algunas universidades no hacen problema si alguien no tiene la ciudadanía. Dentro de la Universidad de Cornell tenía un gran grupo amigos y de estudiantes que le han solicitado al presidente de la universidad apoyar el Sueño de Estudiar.
     Para los jóvenes estudiantes, Alessandro ofrece consejos.
     Él dijo: "el cielo es el límite. Estás en un país donde tienes la oportunidad de estudiar, siempre y cuando te encuentres está buscando una. Es necesario trabajar para ella, pero está ahí. Nunca te rindas y no dejes que nadie te desanime. Tú puedes tomar una crítica para aprender de ello. Siempre ayudan para el éxito. Nunca dejes que nadie te diga que sus logros son menos que la de otra."
     Sobre el tema de éxito, Alessandro dice: "Cada copo de nieve es diferente, cada carrera es diferente. Haz de tu camino, el camino del éxito. El éxito es lo que te hace feliz y lo que te sientas contento contigo mismo. Si tu eres bueno en el baloncesto o la escritura o lo que sea, se bueno para ello. Si tu sientes que no está en el lugar correcto, lo quitas de encima y sigue adelante”.

Three years ago, we published an article in our “Si Se Puede” column about Alessandro “AB” Bailetti when he graduated from Pensacola State College. It is with great pride we update readers that Alessandro has graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Genetics. He graduated with High Honors. He has been accepted into the Ph.D. Program at New York University (NYU).
     The Bailetti Family is from Pisco Peru. They moved to Pensacola when Alessandro was 16. He graduated fromPensacola High School in 2006.
     “My parents are the reason why I’m here. Since I was a kid they always told me ‘do well, and then do it better. Always strive to do better. Never forget where you come from and always cherish it,” he said. “My parents have worked hard, sometimes having two or three jobs waking up early and going to bed late at night, always looking for overtime. I cherish that. They never gave up. They never stopped working.”
     His parents’ encouragements and example were what have kept Alessandro concentrated on excelling.
     “I don’t consider myself to be ‘super smart,’ just someone who simply doesn’t give up,” Alessandro said.
     When speaking about his friends who are DREAMers (undocumented immigrant students) he said: “Sometimes I’m amazed because you don’t really know who they are until we get to talking about the future. Then they say ‘I’m not sure, I’m a DREAMer.’ I’m happy that we’re doing something for these people because I have gone thru much of what they have gone thru. The only difference is the papers. Many of them are smarter than I am, and they have a fire in them. They inspire me,” Alessandro said. “We think that we have so much going against us, but when you see what they face, we realize that we need to stop complaining about what we don’t have and be thankful for what we do have and not give up,” he added.
     Alessandro says he is happy that some universities choose not to inhibit education because of citizenship. Cornell had a large group of students that were petitioning the university president to support the DREAM Act.
     To young students, Alessandro offers advice.
     He said, “They sky is the limit. You are in a country where you will have an opportunity if you are looking for one. You need to work for it, but it is there. Never give up and never let anyone get you down. You can take a criticism as a put down or learn from it. Always strive for success. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that your achievements are less than another’s.”
     On the topic of success, Alessandro says, “Every snowflake is different, every career path is different. Make your path. Success is whatever makes you happy and happy about you. If you are good at basketball or writing or whatever, be good at it. If you feel like you’re not in the right place, shake it off and move on.”
