Los candidatos llegan a la comunidad hispana
Cuatro años atrás, cuando el Sheriff del Condado de Escambia  David Morgan estaba pidiendo a la comunidad  votar por él, tuvo un breve encuentro con la directora de La Costa Latina en New York Nick´s en el centro de Pensacola.
     En ese momento, él dijo que tenía la intención de mantener la política del sheriff anterior sólo en la atención de delitos y no involucrarse en las detenciones de inmigración. Morgan fue más allá al decir que él tenía una idea que quería llevar al gobernador del estado para crear una tarjeta de identificación emitida por el gobierno residente.
     Pero en el debate de candidatos celebrado recientemente, Morgan se volvió a preguntar sobre su postura sobre la inmigración, que, evidentemente, ha tenido un cambio importante.      "El tema del gobierno federal es, como tal, que han sido empujados hasta el nivel local y por lo tanto, apoyamos al Sheriff Arpaio y al Estado de Arizona en adoptar una postura muy firme en el tema de la inmigración. ¿Por qué? Debido a que es un problema local. No se pueden legislar esos aspectos concretos de la del Gobierno Federal. "
     Tal vez no se sabe que el Condado de Escambia  tiene claramente menos inmigrantes que hace cuatro años cuando él afirmaba tener una solución más amigable con los inmigrantes a la supuesta "problema local", Morgan ahora parece de apoyo de una ley de inmigración del Estado.
     Por otra parte, John Powell, un oficial de policía certificado lleva 27 años de experiencia como jefe de agente de la policía y el FBI. Powell también fue directo en argumentar en contra de la ley de inmigración propuesta en La Florida como parte de la Secretaria del Departamento para la  Regulación Comercial y Profesional.  El proyecto de ley de la Florida anti-inmigración no fue aprobada en 2011.
     "Los estatutos de Inmigración en realidad pertenecen al Gobierno Federal. Es su responsabilidad  hacer valer sus propuestas", fue la respuesta de Powell en el debate.
     Este año es uno de los años de elecciones más importantes del Condado de Escambia en La Florida que se ha tenido en mucho tiempo, y algunos candidatos han hecho el esfuerzo de incluir a la comunidad latina en su campaña.  A La Costa Latina le agrada presentar los candidatos a sus lectores.

Candidates Reach Out to Hispanic Community

Four years ago when Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan was asking the community to vote for him, he had a brief encounter with the editor of La Costa Latina at New York Nick's in downtown Pensacola. At that time, he said that he intended on keeping the previous sheriff's policy in only dealing with crimes and not getting involved in immigration detentions. Morgan went further to say that he had an idea that he wanted to take to the state governor to create a government issued resident identification card.
     But at recent candidate debate held, Morgan was again asked about his stance on immigration, he has obviously had a change of heart. The recording of this response is posted here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GM9CgeiL8D A&feature=youtu.be.
     "The issue from the federal government is as such that they have been pushed down to the local level and therefore we are supportive of Sheriff Arpaio and the state of Arizona in taking a very firm stand on the immigration issue.  Why? Because it's a local problem. You cannot legislate those particular issues from the Federal Government."
     Perhaps unaware that Escambia county clearly has fewer immigrants than four years ago when he claimed to have a more immigrant-friendly solution to the alleged "local problem,” Morgan now seems supportive of a state immigration law.
     John Powell, a certified law enforcement officer brings 27 years of experience as a chief of police and FBI agent. Powell was also instrumental in arguing against the proposed immigration bill in Florida as a department secretary for the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. The Florida anti-immigration bill did not pass in 2011.
     "Immigration statues actually belong to the Federal Government. It’s their responsibility to enforce their statues," was Powell’s response in the debate.
     This year is one of the most important election years Escambia County Florida has had in a long time, and some candidates have made the effort to include the Latino community in their campaigning. La Costa Latina would like to introduce these candidates to readers.
     The public is invited to the DeLuna Lanes Lounge on Thursday, June 28, at 6pm when the following candidates will present the issues and answer questions about the issues that concern the Latino community and the residents of Escambia County.
