La Pasión de un Bombero que Quema más que el Fuego

De vez en cuando un “chief” de bomberos reconoce los muchos talentos de los empleados de su departamento honrándolos con el Fire Chief’s Award (Trofeo) por la dedicación y el trabajo que estos héroes ponen en sus trabajos asi como en sus comunidades. Este año el Jefe de Bomberos, Sammy Sánchez, recibió el prestigioso honor.
     Originalmente de El Paso, Texas, Sánchez no siempre pensó ser un jefe de bomberos. No fué sino hasta 1990 cuando un bombero amigo lo introdujo en la valiente carrera. Después de eso, él no se podia ver haciendo otra cosa.
     ‘’En mi corazón esto era lo que estaba destinado a hacer’’ dijo Sánchez.     Impresionado por las varias situaciones de emergencias de incendios de las cuales ha sido testigo, Sánchez dice que los ciudadanos que él ha ayudado a travéz de los años se han conver-tido en más que victimas, y más como familia.
     Como jefe de bomberos, Sánchez tiene que enforzar inmumerables códigos de seguridad en edificios públicos y privados asi como chequear los anteproyectos de los edificios asegurándo la seguri-dad.
       Sánchez dice que su carrera ha tenido un efecto en su vida diaria en la cual ahora él siem-pre parece notar cada código de incendio salida de emergencia no importa a donde él vaya. También nota varias precauciones que la mayoria no aprecia.
       Teniendo una carrera que implica buscar por peligros en edificios, Sanchez está muy conciente de los peligros que lo rodean cuando está de turno, pero él ve la situación con optimismo.
    ‘’Cada trabajo tiene sus peligros, y protegiendo a los ciu-dadanos lo valida para mi,’’ dijo él .
     Con el aprecio de su colegas y las personas en su distrito, Sánchez dice que el se siente grandemente honrado y privile-giado de servir a su comunidad. El disfruta dando a la comu-nidad promoviendo seguridad.
    Sánchez dijo, ‘’Yo creo en lo que hago.’’

     Every so often a fire chief acknowledges the many accomplishments of his fire marshals by honoring them with the Fire Chief’s Award for the dedication and labor these heroes put into their jobs as well as their communities. This year Fire Marshal Sammy Sanchez was awarded with the prestigious honor.
     Originally from El Paso, Texas, Sanchez did not always have in mind to be a county hero. It was not until 1990 when a former fireman friend introduced him to the valiant career; then after that he could not see himself doing anything else.
     “In my heart this is what I’m destined to do,” Sanchez said.
     Touched by the various sorrows involving fire emergencies Sanchez proclaims that the citizens he has helped throughout the years have become more then just victims saved by his call, and more as family.
     As a fire marshal, Sanchez has had to enforce numerous safety codes to public and private buildings as well as check building blueprints ensuring the safety of people. Sanchez claims that his career has had an effect on his everyday life in a very peculiar manner in which now he always seems to notice every fire code or emergency exit no matter where he goes. He also notices various fire precautions that most people take for granted. Having a career which involves looking for safety hazards in buildings, Sanchez is very much aware of the many dangers when on call for duty, but he chooses to view the situation optimistically.
    “Every job has its hazards, and protecting citizens makes it all worth it to me,” he said.
     With appreciation from colleagues and people in his district Sanchez, feels greatly honored and privileged to serve his community. Sanchez enjoys giving back to the community by promoting safety.
     Sanchez confesses, “I believe in what I do.”
     He is a true Latino-American hero with much passion and enthusiasm in his line of duty and for his people, and living proof that “Si se puede!” Congratulations, Sammy!
