Mobile llevará a cabo reunión sobre Africatown
La Comisión de Desarrollo Histórico de Mobile llevará a cabo una audiencia pública sobre el proyecto de Distrito Africatown histórico, que está siendo considerado para su inclusión en el Registro Nacional de Lugares Históricos. El distrito es de importancia nacional como la ubicación de la comunidad establecido por el último grupo de africanos que fueron traídos a los Estados Unidos en 1860 a bordo del barco negrero, Clotilde. Los límites del distrito propuesto corresponden aproximadamente con Lane Jakes hacia el norte, la calle Ferrocarril hacia el oeste, la calle de la barbilla hacia el sur y el camino del Paper Mill Road hacia el este.
Los representantes de la Comisión de Alabama Histórico, el concejal William Carroll, y el presidente de la Comisión de Desarrollo Histórico de Mobile estarán presentes para responder a cualquier pregunta. Los residentes de Africatown están invitados a asistir.
El Registro Nacional de Lugares Históricos es la lista oficial nacional de propiedades históricas dignas de preservación. Inscripción en el Registro Nacional ofrece el reconocimiento y la ayuda a la preservación del patrimonio de nuestra nación. Mobile to Hold Meeting about Africatown

     The Mobile Historic Development Commission will be holding a public hearing on the proposed Africatown Historic District, which is being considered for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places.   The district is nationally significant as the location of the community established by the last group of Africans brought to the United States in 1860 onboard the slaveship, Clotilda. The proposed district’s boundaries will correspond roughly with Jakes Lane to the north, Railroad Street to the west, Chin Street to the south and Paper Mill Road to the east.
     Representatives from the Alabama Historical Commission, Councilman William Carroll, and the president of the Mobile Historic Development Commission are scheduled to be in attendance to answer any questions. Residents of Africatown are encouraged to attend.
     The National Register of Historic Places is the official national list of historic properties worthy of preservation. Listing in the National Register provides recognition and assists in preserving our nation’s heritage. The hearing will be held at the Plateau Community Center at 850 Edwards Street on May 23, 2012 at 5:30 P.M.   Please call 208-7448 for more information.
