Pruebas gratuitas de VIH en el Consejo de Derechos Humanos en Pensacola
El mes pasado, la gente visitó La Costa Latina Hispanic Resource Center (HRC) (Centro de Recursos Humanos de La Costa Latina), situado en 5465 N. Pensacola Blvd. en Pensacola para obtener una prueba del VIH gratis y confidencial. Los resultados se dan en menos de media hora, y se proporcionó información sobre cómo protegerse de la infección. Los exámenes serán, una vez más, proporcionados gratis en centro HRC el viernes 11 de mayo, de 4 - 7 PM
     Es importante conocer tu estado para evitar la transferencia de la enfermedad a los demás y para comenzar el tratamiento cuanto antes. Aproximadamente uno de cada cuatro personas con VIH no saben que están infectadas. El VIH suele ser asintomático durante años, por lo que la única manera de conocer su estado es haciéndose la prueba. Mientras más temprano se descubre el VIH, mejor se puede tratar. Ser VIH positivo no significa que usted tiene SIDA. El SIDA es la etapa más avanzada de la enfermedad del VIH. El tratamiento adecuado puede evitar el desarrollo del SIDA.
    Ya sea que fueres positivo o negativo, si estás teniendo relaciones sexuales o te inyectas drogas, necesitas saber cómo prevenir la infección por el VIH. La buena noticia es que si practicas sexo en una forma de forma constante segura y si reduces las prácticas dañinas entonces reduces el riesgo para tí y para tus parejas.
     De acuerdo con los Centros para el Control de Enfermedades y la Comisión Latina del SIDA, los hispanos en E.E.U.U representaron el 18% de los casos de VIH / SIDA en el año 2006, entre 33 estados. Entre los hispanos o latinos, los varones tuvieron una mayor tasa de SIDA (por 100.000) de 31.3, que las mujeres, 9.5.
     Para mujeres hispanas / latinas que viven con el VIH / SIDA, los métodos más comunes de transmisión del VIH son el contacto heterosexual de alto riezgo y el uso de drogas inyectables (UDI). En 2005, la mayoría de las latinas que viven con el VIH / SIDA fueron infectados a través de contacto eterosexual - aproximadamente el 70% de las latinas.
     Date la tranquilidad de conocer tu estado de VIH. La información y las pruebas estarán disponibles en Español e Inglés. No se requiere cita para la prueba en el HRC el 11 de mayo. También se ofrecen exámenes en la Fundación AIDS Healthcare ubicada  en Blvd. 4300 Bayou Blvd. Suite de 37 en Pensacola.

 Free HIV Testing at HRC in Pensacola
Last month, people visited the La Costa Latina Hispanic Resource Center (HRC) located at 5465 N. Pensacola Blvd. in Pensacola to get a free and confidential HIV test. Results were given in less than half an hour, and information was provided on how to protect ones self from getting infected. Free testing will once again be provided at the HRC on Friday, May 11 from 4 – 7 p.m.
     It is important to know your status to prevent transfer of the disease to others and to begin treatment sooner. About one in four people with HIV don’t know that they are infected. HIV is often asymptomatic for years, so the only way to know your status is to get tested. The earlier HIV is discovered, the better it can be treated. Being HIV-positive does not mean you have AIDS. AIDS is the most advanced stage of HIV disease. Proper treatment can keep you from developing AIDS.
     Whether you’re positive or negative, if you’re having sex or injecting drugs you need to know how to prevent HIV infection.  The good news is that by consistently practicing safer sex and harm reduction, you make the risk to yourself and your partners much smaller.
