“Educación Básica sin Fronteras”

     Con motivo de reconocer a las  personas  que sobresalen por sus esfuerzos en favor de la educación  de los niños migrantes, el 20 de Julio del 2012, se llevó a cabo  en la Ciudad de México, la entrega  del  premio “Steen” ( educación, en  idioma Mixteco) el cual se otorgó  merecidamente a nuestra directora  Maestra María Pouncey.
     En esta magna ceremonia, el Secretario de Educación  Pública de México, Sr. Ángel Córdova Villalobos,  pronunció un emotivo discurso del cual queremos compartir con ustedes los aspectos más importantes que conciernen a la población  Mexicana  e Hispanoamericana  que radica en Estados Unidos.
     El Sr. Córdova destacó que en Estados Unidos viven alrededor de 12 millones de Mexicanos, de los cuales 900, 000 son niños en edad escolar en educación básica; que estos niños han encontrado en el sistema educativo público de este país,  una educación incluyente que les permite superarse en un ambiente cálido y fraterno gracias a las acciones  de autoridades escolares, docentes,  y activistas sociales.
     Que debido a la dinámica del fenómeno migratorio, más de 400,000 niños son de origen México –Americano y que en algún momento  regresan a su país, temporal o definitivamente;  por  tal motivo puntualizó que  desde el año 2009, existe el programa  “Educación Básica sin Fronteras”, que atiende a niños y adolescentes migrantes  México –Estados Unidos, así como a la población infantil de Centro América que está de paso por México.
     Este programa se lleva a cabo en 1,300  escuelas ubicadas en lugares de mayor incidencia de estas migraciones, las cuales son atendidas por 2,100 maestros bilingües. Este proyecto cuenta también con el paquete especial de materiales   “Aquí y Allá”  el cual contiene materiales de apoyo a la transición educativa Entre México y Estados Unidos.
     Mencionó  también que existen actualmente  423 Plazas  Comunitarias en 32 Estados de La Unión Americana,  las cuales ofrecen educación presencial y a distancia  de educación  primaria y secundaria a  36,000 adultos hispanoamericanos mayores de 15 años. Sobre la educación superior, apuntó  que en diversos países del mundo, 1000 estudiantes aproximadamente, estudian en  la Universidad  Abierta y Distancia de México, ubicando al 60 % de estos, en Estados Unidos.
     Amables lectores, para finalizar este artículo, queremos  reiterarle que en PAEC Migrant Education Program, además de dar atención educativa a los niños y adolescentes, hijos de trabajadores migrantes, contamos con una Plaza Comunitaria, que ofrece los servicios presenciales y en línea, de  Educación Básica para Adultos Mexicanos e   Hispanoamericanos, donde podrán estudiar y  obtener su Certificado de Primaria y/o Secundaria expedido por la Secretaria de Educación  Pública de México. También podrán estudiar el GED en  español o iniciar o concluir  el Bachillerato a distancia que ofrece El Colegio de Bachilleres; así mismo, también ofrecemos la posibilidad de  presentar  el examen único de conocimientos para acreditar el bachillerato  mediante el  acuerdo 286 del CENEVAL y la Secretaría de Educación Pública de México  ya que recientemente nuestra Plaza Comunitaria fue seleccionada  por  EDUCAMEXUS para ser sede donde se lleven a cabo estos exámenes cuatrimestrales. Sobre la  educación superior, si tienen su bachillerato concluido, podrán iniciar y concluir una Carrera universitaria en la Universidad Abierta y a Distancia  de México.

"Basic Education Without Borders"

     On the occasion to recognize those who stand out for their efforts on behalf of education of migrant children, on July 20, 2012, was held in Mexico City, the "Steen" award ("education" in Mixteco language) which was deservedly given to our director: Professor Maria Pouncey.
     In this great ceremony, the Secretary of Education of Mexico, Mr. Ángel Córdova Villalobos, delivered a moving speech, parts of which we would like to share with you on its most important aspects concerning the Mexican and Latin American population living in the United States.
     Mr. Cordova said that in the U.S. there are about 12 million Mexicans, of which 900, 000 are school children in basic education; these children have found in the public education system in this country an inclusive education allowing them to excel in a warm and fraternal environmente thanks to the actions of school officials, teachers, and social activists.
     Due to the dynamics of migration, more than 400,000 children are American-Mexican and eventually return home, temporarily or permanently.  For this reason, since 2009, there is a program: "Basic Education without Borders ", which serves children and adolescents from Mexico in the USA and children from Central America who are passing through Mexico.
     This program is carried out in 1,300 schools located in areas with the highest incidence of these migrations, which are served by 2.100 bilingual teachers. This project also has the special package of materials "Here and There" which contains materials to support the educational transition between Mexico and the United States.
     He also mentioned that there are currently 423 Community Plazas in 32 States of the American Union, which offer on-site and distance education for elementary and high school levels to 36,000 Hispanic adults over age 15. On higher education, he said that in many countries worldwide, approximately 1000 students, are studying at the Open University and Distance of Mexico, placing 60% of those in the United States.
     Dear readers, to finish this article, we want to reiterate that in PAEC Migrant Education Program, in addition to providing education to children and adolescents, children of migrant workers, we have a Community Plaza, which offers services and online, Education Adult Basic Mexican and Hispanic Americans, where they can study and get their Certificate of Primary and / or Secondary Education issued by the Secretary of Education of Mexico. They may also study the GED in Spanish or start or end the the school-at-a-distance offered by Baccalaureate College of Bachelors, likewise, we also offer the possibility to take the test to prove your knowledge and obtain a high school diploma since our school has been approved as a site to take such tests by the CENEVAL agreement 286, the Mexico Public Education Board, and EDUCAMEXUS.  These exams can be taken every three months.
     On higher education, if they have completed a bachelor's degree, students may initiate and complete a university degree at the Open University and Distance of Mexico.
