More than 300 Families Receive Food and Essentials Pensacola, Florida, January 28, 2013,– On Saturday, January 26, Feed The Children delivered a semi tractor-trailer full of food and essentials to Pensacola for distribution at St. John Divine Missionary Baptist Church’s parking lot. The 400 boxes of food and much needed essentials were a result of a partnership between Community Action Program Committee (CAPC), the Pensacola Boys Base, and area churches. The Pensacola Boys Base held many fundraisers to make this and future distributions possible in the Pensacola area. The organization uses those funds to purchase the food; however, they look for a nonprofit organization to partner with who could identify needy families, coordinate the event, and generate volunteers to help with the distribution. Saturday’s event is one of three food distributions CAPC and the Pensacola Boys Base will sponsor this year. The event is designed to address serious community issues involving children and their families and give them hope for better days. Each family received at least one 25-pound box of food and a 10-pound box of personal care items depending on family size. The boxes are designed to help a family of four, for up to one week. In addition, families with infants received baby food as well. More than one in four Escambia County children is considered impoverished. The number of impoverished children living in Florida (923,963) could fill the Pensacola Civic Center 76 times. CAPC plans to have more food distribution dates and sites to be posted on their website (www.capc-pensacola.org) as they become available. |
