Island Water Main Repaired Following Barge Accident Okaloosa County, Fla. – Okaloosa Island Water Main has been repaired, after the damage from being hit by a barge on Brooks Bridge on Wednesday. Okaloosa County Water and Sewer (OCWS) has taken the necessary steps to ensure an adequate and safe drinking water supply to the Island; however, as a precaution, OCWS has issued a Precautionary Boil Water Notice (see below). Due to timely and highly skilled repairs by OCWS and FDOT crews and due to conservation by residents and businesses on Okaloosa Island, the water distribution system remained intact and water system pressures remained in the normal range. Additionally, all lanes are open on Brooks Bridge. As of writing, the Precautionary Boil Water Notice is expected to be cancelled by March 22. Precautionary Boil Water Notice: Due to an emergency repair, water service has been interrupted and a “Precautionary Boil Water Notice” has been issued for some customers in the Okaloosa County Water Service Area (PWS ID #1460506). The notice has been issued to all areas of Okaloosa Island. As a precaution, all affected customers should boil water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, washing dishes, bathing, and brushing teeth until further notice. Water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using; or as an alternative, bottled water may be used. This “Precautionary Boil Water Notice” will remain in effect until service is restored and a bacteriological survey shows that the water is safe to drink. Residents will be notified when the “Precautionary Boil Water Notice” has been rescinded. For further information, please contact Mark Wise, Deputy Director, 850-651-7172. |
