La Cuidad de Mobile: Entrevista con un Candidato para Alcalde de la Cuidad
Lo siguiente es una entrevista por John O’Donnell Rosales con el Candidato para Alcalde de la Cuidad de Mobile, Sandy Stimpson.

Porque estas corriendo para Alcalde?
     Estoy corriendo para alcalde de Mobile, porque francamente no estoy conforme con la dirección en la que nuestra ciudad va y estoy convencido de que podemos hacer mucho mejor. Y también porque yo creo que la experiencia y habilidades que eh adquirido en negocios y colaboraciones no lucrativas son los que la historia de Mobile necesita.

Cual problema atacara primero?
     El crimen. Sin una ciudad segura, no tenemos cuidad. El hecho es que cuando la gente no se siente segura, se van. La seguridad pública es la función más importante del gobierno de la cuidad. Es la  base en la cual  nosotros  construimos  todos los demás componentes que habilitan a las familias y negocios a crecer.
     Quiero fijar metas más altas- porque no podemos ser la cuidad más segura en América. Si nosotros trabajamos juntos  y decidimos que esa es nuestra meta, podremos llegar a ella juntos. Nosotros podemos comprometernos a un liderazgo fuerte que le da a la policía las herramientas que ellos necesitan para hacer su trabajo. Juntos nosotros podemos traer una comunidad basada en fe y ayudar a los adolescentes a seguir un camino fuera de las calles y en un nuevo trabajo.

El eslogan de su campana es “One Mobile”, que significa eso?
    Por mucho tiempo hemos tenidos grandes planes, pero nunca han sido implementados, solo coleccionan polvo en los anaqueles. Parte de uno de los problemas es que hemos perdidos las oportunidades de traer a nuestra comunidad unida y resolver nuestros problemas juntos. Yo creo que como Alcalde, yo tengo la responsabilidad de tener un espacio para todos en la mesa. Nunca llegaremos a nuestro potencial total sin todos trabajando juntos. Seremos lo mejor si nos volvemos UNO!

Que traerá a la mesa que  es diferente al alcalde actualmente?
    Habiendo sido un hombre de negocios, en los negocios de maderería toda mi vida. Eh aprendido varias lecciones valiosas y la más importante es que cuando estás dispuesto a trabajar como un equipo – todo es posible. Yo creo que mi experiencia en los negocios y en mi trabajo con la escuela de la  cuidad de Prichard – me han preparado para ser un Alcalde. Quiero ser el líder que les sirve a todos y el cual trabaja duro para construir oportunidades para lo gente joven para que ellos se queden y se vuelvan parte de nuestra comunidad.

City of Mobile: Interview with a Mayoral Candidate
The following is an interview by John O’Donnell Rosales with City of Mobile Mayoral candidate, Sandy Stimpson.

Why are you running for Mayor?
     I’m running for mayor of Mobile, because quite frankly I am not comfortable with the direction our city is taking and I’m convinced we can do better. And because I believe that experience and skills that I have acquired in business and non-profit collaboration are what’s most needed in Mobile’s history.

What issue will you tackle first?
     Crime. Without a safe city, we have no city. The fact is that when people don’t feel safe, they leave. Public safety is the most important function of city government. It’s the foundation on which we build every other component that enables families and businesses to thrive.
I want to set the goal higher – why can’t we be known as the safest city in America. If we come together and decide that is out goal, we can achieve great things together. We can commit to strong leadership that gives the police the tools they need to do their job. We can bring together the faith based community and help steer our young people away from a life on the street and into a new job.

You campaign slogan is “One Mobile”, what does that mean?
     For too long we have had great plans, but they are never implemented, they only collect dust on a shelf. Part of the problem is that we miss opportunities to bring our entire community together as one and solve our problems together. I believe that as Mayor, I have the responsibility to have space for everyone at the table. We will never reach our fullest potential if we are not all working together. We will be our best when we are ONE.

What will you bring to the table that is different than the current mayor?
     Having been a businessman in the lumber business my entire life. I learned some very valuable lessons and most importantly that when you are willing to work together as a team – anything is possible. I believe that my experiences in business and in my work with an inner-city school in Prichard – have prepared me to be Mayor. I want to be a leader that serves everyone and works hard to build opportunities for our young people so they stay home and become a part of our community.
