Electric Piquete to Play the Latino Festival October 5 Electric Piquete will make their Florida Panhandle debut at the annual Latino Festival presented by La Costa Latina on Saturday, October 5, 2013 during Hispanic Heritage month. Formed in the Miami suburb of Hialeah, FL in 2007, Electric Piquete has always been driven by a shared love of Latin jazz, funk, rock and fusion and a mutual respect and brotherhood among the musicians. The band’s unique sound and intense live performances earned them the Best Latin Band award from the Miami New Times and prompted Miami.com to feature them as a Band of the Hour. Their music has been licensed by Lexus for a promotional video and one of their original compositions (“En La Playa Giron”) was featured in a Miami Herald special report about the 50th anniversary of the Bay of Pigs invasion. The band released their self-titled, seven-song debut in March of 2011, featuring five original songs (“Mother Smother,” “Fonquetazo,” “Heart of Soul,” “Groovy on a Sunday Afternoon” and “Cutty and Water Blues”), a cover of the Buena Vista Social Club’s standard “Chan Chan” and a remix of “Mother Smother” by the Latin Grammy-nominated musician and producer DJ Le Spam. The remix features performances by two Spam Allstars: Mercedes Abal (vocals) and Jose Thomas Diaz (vocals and percussion). Electric Piquete, consisting of Puerto Ricans Ed Rosado on drums and vocals, Raymond Ayala on congas and Steven Ayala on timbales, Cuban-Americans Michael Mut on bass and vocals, Chris Correoso on guitar and Rich Dixon on trumpet, and Colombia Ozzy Reyes on tenor saxophone, is currently back at work with DJ Le Spam in his City of Progress Studio recording a full-length follow-up, from which they have already released the studio version of “En La Playa Giron.” EP’s music is available for sale on iTunes and Amazon.com and streams from www.soundcloud.com/ElectricPiquete.
