Authentic Bullfighting Exhibition in Mississippi Jackson, MS—The first annual Mississippi Bullfighting exhibition will be held on Saturday, December 7th from 7-10 p.m. at the Kirk Fordice Equine Center, next to the Jackson Coliseum. The event will showcase traditional bullfighting as seen in countries like Mexico and Spain, and will feature internationally known, professional award-winning toreros and matadors Alberto Valente and Alberto “El Cuate” Espinoza of Mexico. General admission tickets are $25.00 for ages six and up and are available at Ticketmaster.com, at the Coliseum box office and at the door the day of the event. Admission is free for children ages five and under. This exhibition is the first ever public bullfighting event presented in Mississippi. While a cultural tradition in Latin American and Spanish countries such as Mexico, Ecuador, Venezuela, Spain, and Portugal, bullfighting is relatively unheard of in the United States. Supporters of bullfighting argue that it is a culturally important tradition, calling it a “spectacle” and “fine art,” citing the formal, intricate maneuvers used by the matadors, and the emotional connection forged between the matador and crowd through the bull. While traditional bullfighting ends in the killing of the bull in the arena (except in Portugal that is illegal), this exhibition will NOT end in the bulls’ death. The bullfighting will be authentic in every way, but the bulls will NOT be killed. While the bulls will not be in danger, this exhibition is still a dangerous event with matadors placing themselves in harm’s way at all times. This event is intended to showcase a culturally important tradition of a growing segment of Mississippi’s population, and is a rare opportunity to see an authentic bullfight, something rarely seen inside the United States. This event is family friendly, although parents should consider the danger aspect in bringing very young children. Following Mississippi Bullfighting, there will be a dance at the new Latin Train, located next to Hampton Inn at 330 Greymont Avenue, Jackson, Mississippi. Mississippi Bullfighting is presented by Stone-Cast Productions and sponsored by Britches & Boots, Capital City Beverages, Inc., Jackson Convention & Visitors Bureau, La Noticia de Misisipi, The Radio People - U.S. 96.3, Y101.7, Jack FM 100.9, Mix 98.7, Roundtree Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram, Miller Lite, WLBT-Ch. 3, Mi Ranchito.
