PCC Pressenta "Un Mundo Varias Voces" (" One World Many Voices") con Francisco J. Nuñez |
PCC Presents “One World Many Voices” with Francisco J. Núñez In its first major concert of 2015, the Pensacola Children’s Chorus welcomes special guest conductor Francisco J. Núñez, the artistic director and founder of the award-winning Young People’s Chorus of New York City (YPC), to take part in its concert celebration of cultural diversity through song, “One World Many Voices,” on Sunday, February 22, at 2:30 p.m. at the Saenger Theatre. In a program in which the members take the audience on a musical journey around the globe with multilingual performances in Arabic, English, French, Hebrew, Maori, Spanish, and Swahili, Mr. Núñez will lead the chorus in works by Jim Papoulis and Douglas J. Cuomo, as well as four of his own compositions: Your Heart Goes With Me, Misa Pequeña para Niños, Pinwheels, and Es Tu Tiempo, a piece most recently commissioned from him and premiered by the Los Angeles Master Chorale. Tickets, at $15, $20, and $25, are available at the Saenger Theatre, 22 East Intendencia Street, in Downtown Pensacola or on Ticketmaster.com. Francisco J. Núñez, a MacArthur “genius” fellow, is a composer, conductor, visionary, and a leading figure in music education. Since he founded YPC in 1988 on a mission of artistic excellence and diversity, he has changed the perception of the ability of children to rise to unforeseen levels of artistry, and in 2011 First Lady Michelle Obama presented YPC with a National Arts & Humanities Youth Program Award. Mr. Núñez also leads the University Glee Club of New York City, its fifth conductor since the all-men’s chorus was established in 1894 and is sought after nationwide as a conductor by professional orchestras and choirs, a master teacher, and a frequent keynote speaker as a leading authority on the role of music in achieving equality and diversity among children in today’s society. He has received an ASCAP Victor Herbert Award, the New York Choral Society’s Choral Excellence Award, and ABC-TV honored him as its “Person of the Week.” |
