EMPRESAS LATINAS AVANZAN EN LA COSTA
Nadie puede discutir que hay menos empresas Latinas o menos negocios con temas Latinos en el Noroeste de Florida y Sureste de Alabama que hace siete años. El período de reconstrucción después del Huracán Ivan en 2004 causó un aumento en la demografía Latina en la Costa del Golfo durante varios años. Esto llevó a la creación de empresas Latinas que todavia son populares hoy en dia tales como la tienda La Mexicana ahora ubicada en Pensacola Blvd. y Nine Mile Rd., Olgy's Taqueria localizada ahora en W St. y Beverly Pkwy., y su servidora, Latino Media Gulf Coast.
Pero algunos ambiciosos empresarios están todavia invirtiendo en nuestra comunidad con las esperanzas de servir, representar, y ganar la aprobación de la comunidad Latina. He aqui tres negocios que han empezado muy bien.
El Asador: 7955 Davis Hwy (Atrás gasolinera Shell), Pensacola
River Garcia abrió El Asador el verano pasado y rápidamente distinguió su restaurante como auténtico y extraordinariamente delicioso.
A pesar de la pequeña apariencia, su menú consiste de sabrosas, jugosas carnes asadas que son irresistibles para todos al alcance de su aroma.
Su plato más popular posiblemente sea su pollo asado. Una hornada de pollo sale de la parrilla cada tarde a las 12:30.
"El aroma es sorprendente!" la mesera de El Asador, Sandra Camargo dijo con una sonrisa confiada. "Lo mejor es cuando sale de la parrilla!"
Pero no crea que sólo los Latinos aprecian las habilidades culinarias de Garcia. Las comunidades están rápidamente aprendiendo acerca de los ricos sabores que El Asador sirve.
"Americanos y Coreanos han estado viniendo a comer aqui regularmente," Camargo añadió. " Les encantan nuestros burritos y quesadillas."
Con mucho orgullo Garcia confirma que su clientela está creciendo, pero humildemente recuerda los comentarios y recomendaciones de sus clientes.
"Siempre escuchamos a nuestros clients," dijo Garcia pero añade que su estilo está comprometido a ser 100% Mexicano.

Yari La Boutique: 5218 North "W" Street, Unit G, Pensacola
 Yari Alvarez dice que ella sabe de modas y quiere probralo trayendo a nuestra comunidad todo lo que es moderno y elegante con un toque Latino.
"Quiero que nuestras mujeres Latinas se vean bien. Cuado Ud. se ve bien, Ud. se siente bien, y entonces quiere hacer lo mejor," dijo Alvarez, originaria de Maracaibo, Venezuela.
Yari La Boutique ofrece un surtido de blusas y vestidos de fiesta, pero distingue su inventario con una existencia variada de jeans Colombianos con el siempre popular butt lifts. (Alzas traseras).
"Todos los jeans que tenemos aqui son 100% Colombianos," dijo Alvarez.
Nuestra medias (leggings) también tienen esa característica favorecedora y están disponibles en varios colores. Yari también tiene colección de pulseras, arêtes y accesorios.

Tenemos una nueva opción para una clase distinta de entretenimiento pero con la música y atmósfera Latina que nos gusta gracias a Mario Jimenez, dueño del Rancho Alegre en Ft, Walton Beach. Jimenez inaguró NY Billares en Pensacola el dia de San Valentin con un show en vivo de Pedro Rios. El local de múltiples usos ha sido remodelado y las mesas de billar están colocadas.
El sueño de Jimenez ha sido crear una facilidad similar a lo que es disponible en ciudades más grandes donde los asistentes se sientan cómodos y relajados, disfruten de una cerveza y talvez vean un juego.
"Muchos en Pensacola me han dicho que les gust jugar billar, pero que no hay ningún lugar adonde ir con excepción de night clubs en la noche," dijo Jimenez. "Ellos en realidad no tienen un lugar que es cómodo en donde puedan ir y pasar el tiempo, jugar billar y ver deportes."
Planes para NY Billares también incluyen karaoke, y aún hacerlo disponible para alquilar a grupos privados y eventos especiales.
"Quiero que la gente sepa que esto es más que sólo un night club," añadió Jimenez. "Quiero que la gente se sienta confortable."
Conforte y un sentido de comunidad es exactamente lo que algunos clientes han encontrando en NY Billares. Está a corta distancia de Latinos que viven en el área de Brownsville. Jimenez espera que la gente vendrá a visitarlo de otras áreas también.
"Es una parada perfecta para después del trabajo," dijo Jimenez. "Abriremos más temprano y más a menudo, para que no tengan que esperarse hasta la noche para encontrar un sitio de recreo."

LATINO-OWNED BUSINESSES MOVING FORWARD ON THE COAST
No one can argue that there are fewer Latino-owned or themed businesses in Northwest Florida and Southeast Alabama than there were seven years ago. The reconstruction period following Hurricane Ivan in 2004 spawned a spike in the Latino demographic in the Gulf Coast for several years. This led to the creation if Latino-owned businesses that are still popular today such as La Mexicana store which is now located on Pensacola Blvd. and Nine Mile Rd., Olgy's Taqueria which is now located at W St. and Beverly Pkwy., and yours truly, Latino Media Gulf Coast.
But some ambitious entrepreneurs are still investing in our community with hopes to serve, represent, and win the approval of the Latino community. Here are three businesses that are off to a great start.
El Asador: 7955 Davis Hwy (Behind Shell gas station), Pensacola
 River Garcia opened El Asador last summer and quickly distinguished his hot-spot eatery as authentic and uniquely savory.
Though its appearance is small, their menu consists of flavorfully grilled, juicy meats that are irresistible to anyone within their aroma's range.
Their most popular dish may be their roasted chicken. A succulent hot batch if chicken is taken off the grill every afternoon at 12:30.
"The smell is amazing!" El Asador server, Sandra Camargo said with a confident smile. "The best is when it's right off the grill!"
But don't think that only Latinos have an appreciation for Garcia's culinary skills. The communities quickly learning about the rich flavors El Asador brings to the table.
"Americans and Koreans have been coming to eat here on a regular basis," Camargo added. "They love our burritos and quesadillas."
Garcia proudly confirms that his clientele is expanding, but humbly keeps his customer’s comments and recommendations in mind.
“We are always open listen to our customers,” Garcia said but adds that their style is committed to remain 100% Mexican.

Yari Alvarez says she knows fashion and aims to prove by bringing our community all that is modern and stylish with a Latin touch.
"I want our Latin women to look good. When you look good, you feel good, then you want to do better," said Alvarez, who is from Maracaibo, Venezuela.
Yari La Boutique offers an assortment of tops and party dresses, but distinguishes their inventory with a varied supply of Colombian jeans with the ever popular butt lifts.
"All of the jeans that we have here are 100% Colombian," Alvarez said.
Leggings in stock also have the flattering feature and are available in assorted colors. Yari also has a collection of bracelets, earrings and accessories.
Looking good is often a team effort, so Yari La Boutique also sells clothing for men. Dress shirts, jeans, and t-shirts to keep men dressed in the latest fashion are also available.
Yari's La Boutique offers a virtually limitless assortment of clothing because what you don't find in the store can be ordered from catalogs that are available inside the boutique.
Shoppers don't need to be fashionistas as one young lady posted on Yari's Facebook page.
"Yari, you have given me my body back. Your clothes are amazing!" recent shopper, Michelle, posted.

NY Billares (NY Billiards): 2515 Cervantes St., Pensacola
 We now have a new option for a different form of entertainment but with the Latin music and atmosphere that we love thanks to Mario Jimenez, owner of Rancho Alegre in Ft. Walton Beach. Jimenez opened NY Billares in Pensacola on Valentines Day with a live show by Pedro Rios. The multi-use location has been remodeled and the pool tables are in place.
Jimenez’s vision is to create a facility similar to what is available in larger cities with an atmosphere where people feel comfortable to relax, enjoy a beer, and maybe watch a game.
“Many people in Pensacola have told me that they enjoy playing pool, but there is no place to go except for the night clubs late at night,” Jimenez said. “They don’t really have a place that is comfortable where they can go to just hang out, play pool, and watch sports.”
Plans for NY Billares also include karaoke, food, and even making it available for rental for private parties and special events.
“I want people to know that this is more than just a night club.” Jimenez adds. “I want people to be comfortable.”
Comfort and a sense of community are exactly what some patrons are already finding at NY Billares. It is located within walking distance from Latinos who live in the Brownsville area. Jimenez hopes that people will come from other areas to visit too.
“It’s a perfect pit stop right after work,” Jimenez said. “We’ll be open earlier and more often, so you don’t have to wait till late night to find a place of recreation.” |
