De Periodicos a Piñatas
Navarre, Fla.—Qué sucede con copias antiguas del periódico La Costa Latina cuando se convierten obsoletas? Esa es una pregunta que se nos hace de vez en cuando.  Afortunadamente, vivimos en una zona donde los servicios de reciclaje están disponibles a través de los departamentos locales de saneamiento, aunque recientemente aprendimos de una reutilización de nuestros periódicos viejos que trae alegría y celebración a las familias a lo largo de la costa del Golfo. Se utilizan para ayudar a hacer montones y montones de piñatas!
     Ignacia Rodríguez es dueña de la Tienda San Francisco en Navarre junto con su esposo, José. Su actitud humilde y sonrisa enorme dicen mucho de lo agradecida que esta de hacer lo que hacen y la esperanza que tiene para el futuro de su negocio. 
     A raíz de una tragedia personal, Rodríguez quiso hacer algo que traería alegría a los niños. Ella sabe que piñatas llenas de dulces traerán sonrisas a los rostros de los niños. Ella dice que hacer las piñatas también le ayuda a sanar.
     Rodríguez  también ve la reutilización de los periódicos como una forma en que nuestra comunidad empresarial latina se ayuda entre sí. Del mismo modo, ella le permite al periódico La Costa Latina y otras organizaciones locales un poco de espacio para distribuir en su tienda.
    "Todos tenemos que ser solidarios entre sí," dijo Rodríguez.
      Ese espíritu de apoyo de los residentes de Navarre la ha mantenido en el negocio desde 2009. Rodríguez dijo que no tenía ni idea de que la gente hablaba de su tienda en Internet, pero rápidamente se enteró que era bastante popular. Pero no eran de sus piñatas o su buena disposición de lo que las personas estaban hablando.
     Tienda San Francisco hace unos de los mejores tamales todo el año. Rodríguez dice que hacen alrededor de 1.000 por semana.
     "Tenemos muchos 'Americanos’ que vienen aquí, " dijo Rodríguez. "Los pescadores comenzaron a venir aquí, luego comenzaron a decirle a sus amigos."
     No es de extrañar que Ignacia y José consideran a Navarre un lugar tan cómodo y acogedor. Aspiran a crecer su tienda a una instalación más grande algún día. Hasta entonces, van a seguir utilizando su espacio como un taller de piñatas.
     Mientras que en La Costa Latina esperamos vender todos nuestros periódicos en cada punto de distribución, tenemos que admitir que estamos más que dispuestos a donar lo que podamos para hacer las piñatas de la señora Rodríguez. Además, nos da la oportunidad de parar y comprar sus tamales!

 

 From Newspapers to Piñatas
Tienda San Francisco NavarreWhat happens to old copies of La Costa Latina newspaper when they become outdated? That’s a question that we are asked from time to time. Fortunately, we live in an area where recycling services are available via local sanitation departments, but we recently learned of a reuse of our old newspapers that brings joy and celebration to families along the Gulf Coast. They are used to help make lots and lots of piñatas!
     Ignacia Rodriguez owns Tienda San Francisco in Navarre along with her husband, Jose. Her humble demeanor and tremendous smile speak volumes about how grateful she is to do what they do and the hope she has for the future of their business.
     Following a personal tragedy, Rodriguez wanted to do something that would bring joy to children. She knows that candy-filled piñatas will bring smiles to children’s faces. She says that making the piñatas also helps her to heal.
     Rodriguez also sees the reusing of newspapers as a way that our Latino business community helps each other. Likewise, she allows La Costa Latina newspaper and other local organizations some space to distribute in their store.
     “We all need to be supportive of each other,” Rodriguez said.
     That spirit of support from Navarre residents has kept her in business since 2009. Rodriguez said that she had no idea that people were talking about her store on the internet, but quickly learned that she was quite popular. But it wasn’t her piñatas or kind disposition that people were talking about.
     Tienda San Francisco makes some of the best tamales year-round. Rodriguez says that they make about 1,000 per week.
     “We have many ‘Americans’ that come here,” Rodriguez said. “The fisherman started coming here, then they started telling their friends.”
     It’s no wonder that Ignacia and Jose find Navarre such a comfortable and welcoming place. They aspire to grow their store to a larger facility someday. Until then, they will continue to utilize their space as a piñata workshop.
     While we at La Costa Latina hope to sell out of our newspapers in every location, we have to admit that we’re more than happy to donate what we can to make Mrs. Rodriguez’s piñatas. Besides, it gives us an opportunity to stop and buy her tamales!
