Canelo Alvarez Golpeo a Kirkland
Houston, TX—Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez dominó a James Kirkland con un nocaut en el tercer asalto de una pelea de peso súper welter muy esperada la noche del sábado en el Minute Maid Park.
     Álvarez (45-1-1, 32 K.O.), ex campeón, derribó Kirkland (32-2, 28 K.O.) con una mano derecha en la primera ronda, y los dos boxeadores conectó varios golpes de poder en el segundo.
     En el tercero, Kirkland fue a la cortesía de la lona de un gancho de derecha con casi un minuto restante en la ronda. Momentos después de levantarse, Kirkland quedó atrapado contra las cuerdas. Kirkland bajó la guardia durante una fracción de segundo, y eso abrió una oportunidad para que Alvarez enviara un duro derechazo a la cara. Kirkland cayó al suelo y se quedó sobre su espalda mientras él árbitro Jon Schorle hizo el conteo a 41 segundos por finalizar la ronda.
     Era ampliamente especulado que Alvarez, cuya única derrota libra por libra fue con Floyd Mayweather Jr. en septiembre del 2013, tendría sobre Miguel Cotto en el otoño. Eso se está previsto si Cotto vence a Daniel Geale en la pelea de 157 libras en Brooklyn en junio.

 

 Canelo Alvarez clobbers Kirkland
Houston, TX—Saul "Canelo" Alvarez dominated James Kirkland in a third-round knockout of a highly-anticipated super welterweight fight Saturday night at Minute Maid Park.
     Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs), a former champion, floored Kirkland (32-2, 28 KOs) with a right hand in the opening round, and the two boxers landed several power punches in the second.
     In the third, Kirkland went to the canvas courtesy of a right uppercut with nearly a minute remaining in the round. Moments after getting up, Kirkland was pinned against the ropes. Kirkland let his guard down for a split second, and that opened an opportunity for Alvarez to send a hard right to the face. Kirkland tumbled to the floor and remained on his back while he was counted out by referee Jon Schorle with 41 seconds left in the round.
     It's widely speculated that Alvarez, whose only loss came to pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. in Sept. 2013, would take on Miguel Cotto in the fall. That is provided if Cotto can beat Daniel Geale in their 157-pound fight in Brooklyn in June.
