Tres  Escapan Ahogarse Y nos Sirven Como Recordatorio de la Vigilancia
Okaloosa County—Al escapar ahogarse durante el fin de semana dos niños  nos sirven  como un urgente recordatorio de que la vigilancia alrededor del agua es obligatoria. El primer incidente tuvo lugar el sábado alrededor de las cinco de la tarde en el parque Marler en Choctawhatchee Bay .
     Una niña de cinco años de edad, de Niceville necesitó resucitación cardiopulmonar después de que fué sacada del agua inconsciente y sin poder respirar. Un empleado del centro medico White Wilson  le proporcionó RCP (respiración cardiopulmonar), mientras llegaban las unidades del Departamento de Bomberos para continuar con los primeros auxilios. La niña fue trasladada a Fort Walton Beach Medical Center y se espera que se recupere completamente gracias a los esfuerzos combinados.
     El segundo incidente ocurrió casi al mismo tiempo el sábado, pero en el  Golfo de México en Henderson Beach State Park en Destin. Un niño de 8 años de edad fue arrastrado por una gran ola.
     Su primo de 20 años de edad pudo ayudarlo, pero también fue arrastrado por la ola,  quedando muy fatigado e ingiriendo  gran cantidad de agua salada. El niño fue llevado al Sacred Heart Hospital en Pensacola y lo mantuvieron en observación durante la noche. Se espera que ambos se recuperen.
     La Cruz Roja Americana ofrece una lista con información importante sobre la seguridad en la playa  en www.redcross.org, pero tengan en cuenta que la vigilancia constante es el requisito más importante cuando los niños están cerca del agua. 

 

 Three Near Drownings Serve as Reminders for Vigilance
Okaloosa County—The near drownings of two children over the weekend serve as urgent reminders that vigilance is mandatory around the water. The first incident took place Saturday around five p.m. at Marler Park along Choctawhatchee Bay .
A five-year old Niceville girl required cardiopulmonary resuscitation after she was pulled from the water unconscious and unable to breath on her own. An employee of White Wilson Medical Center was able to provide the lifesaving CPR until Fire Department Units arrived to continue the aid. The child was taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center and was expected to make a full recovery thanks to those combined efforts.
     The second incident occurred around the same time Saturday, but along the Gulf of Mexico at Henderson Beach State Park in Destin. An 8 year old Mississippi boy was swept away by a large wave while near the shoreline and began struggling.
     His 20-year old cousin was able to help, but also got swept out and became very fatigued, also swallowing a lot of salt water. The child was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola to be kept overnight for observation. He and his cousin are expected to recover.
     The American Red Cross provides a list of important beach safety and riptide tips at www.redcross.org, but keep in mind that constant vigilance is the most vital requirement when children are near water.
