La Gobernadora Haley Retó a los Candidatos Sobre Inmigración
WASHINGTON, D.C.—En su respuesta al Estado de la Unión la noche del martes, la gobernadora Nikki Haley (R-SC) subrayó la necesidad de "arreglar nuestro sistema roto de inmigración," y retó a los candidatos presidenciales a tomar un tono más productivo en materia de inmigración.
     Sin dar nombres, la gobernadora Haley dejó en claro que los comentarios de Donald Trump y Ted Cruz no reflejan las opiniones del Partido Republicano.
     "Hoy en día, vivimos en una época de amenazas como pocos en la historia reciente," dijo Haley. "Durante tiempos de ansiedad, puede ser tentador seguir el canto de sirena de las voces más airadas. Debemos resistir esa tentación."
     Haley también destacó la propia historia inmigrante de su familia y la necesidad de soluciones políticas realistas, eficaces y humanas.
     "Yo soy la orgullosa hija de inmigrantes hindúes que recordabamos mis hermanos, mi hermana y yo todos los días lo bendecidos que íbamos a vivir en este país," dijo Haley. "Los inmigrantes han venido a nuestras tierras durante generaciones a vivir el sueño americano.''
     "... Nadie que esté dispuesto a trabajar duro, cumplir con nuestras leyes, y amar a nuestras tradiciones nunca deben sentirse no-bienvenidos en este país," Tenemos que arreglar nuestro sistema de inmigración. Eso significa detener la inmigración ilegal. Y eso significa dar la bienvenida adecuadamente a inmigrantes legales, sin importar su raza o religión. Al igual que tenemos desde hace siglos."
     La reputación de Haley fue bien con los espectadores en un grupo de enfoque que abarca el espectro político, organizado por el encuestador y analista republicano Frank Luntz.
     "La gobernadora Haley ha lanzado un desafío a Donald Trump y Ted Cruz," dijo Ali Noorani, director ejecutivo del National Inmigration Forum Action Fund. "Es hora de que nuestros candidatos presidenciales hagan algo más que emitir llamadas nativistas y reflexiones inconstitucionales.”
     "La respuesta de la gobernadora Haley presenta un camino hacia adelante para ambas partes en materia de inmigración.” Ella está en lo correcto. Necesitamos una acción legislativa para crear un proceso de inmigración que honra nuestros valores, no la retórica divisiva que les perjudica.
     "Ambas partes reconocen que nuestro sistema de inmigración está roto. Ayer por la noche, los líderes de ambos partidos destacaron la necesidad de trabajar juntos. En todo el país y a lo largo del mismo, que tienen el apoyo de un proceso que mueva a todos nosotros hacia adelante."

WASHINGTON, D.C.— In her State of the Union response Tuesday night, Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) underscored the need to “fix our broken immigration system,” and challenged presidential candidates to take a more productive tone on immigration.
     Without naming names, Gov. Haley made it clear that Donald Trump’s and Ted Cruz’s nativist comments do not reflect the views of the Republican Party.
     “Today, we live in a time of threats like few others in recent memory,” said Haley. “During anxious times, it can be tempting to follow the siren call of the angriest voices. We must resist that temptation.”
     Haley also highlighted her family’s own immigrant story and the need for realistic, effective and humane policy solutions.
     “I am the proud daughter of Indian immigrants who reminded my brothers, my sister and me every day how blessed we were to live in this country,” Haley said. “Immigrants have been coming to our shores for generations to live the dream that is America .”
     “ … No one who is willing to work hard, abide by our laws, and love our traditions should ever feel unwelcome in this country,” she continued. “ … We must fix our broken immigration system. That means stopping illegal immigration. And it means welcoming properly vetted legal immigrants, regardless of their race or religion. Just like we have for centuries.”
     Haley’s rebuttal went over well with viewers in a focus group spanning the political spectrum, organized by Republican pollster and analyst Frank Luntz.
     “Governor Haley has issued a challenge to Donald Trump and Ted Cruz,” said Ali Noorani, executive director of the National Immigration Forum Action Fund. “It’s time for our presidential candidates to do more than issue nativist calls and unconstitutional musings.”
     “Governor Haley’s response presents a path forward for both parties on immigration.” She’s right. We need legislative action to create an immigration process that honors our values, not divisive rhetoric that undermines them.
     “Both parties recognize that our immigration system is broken. Last night, leaders from both parties highlighted the need to work together. Across the country and across the spectrum, they have support for a process that moves all of us forward.”
