Nueva Rotonda Hara Fluir el Trafico en Dawes Road y Dawes Lane
|
New Roundabout Gets Go-Ahead at Dawes Road and Dawes Lane MOBILE, Ala.—An eight-month project to construct a roundabout at Dawes Road and Dawes Lane will begin this week with a projected completion date in February. Traffic will be accommodated at the intersection throughout the construction period, but motorists are asked to exercise caution in the area. “Access to businesses in the area will remain clear throughout the project,” said Mobile County Commission President Jerry Carl. “If people can ‘pardon the progress’ for the short term, they will find that the roundabout will relieve traffic congestion and the intersection will be much safer for motorists.” Construction signs will be put in place this week and a 20-foot wide bypass lane will be constructed using part of the existing Dawes Road right-of-way. Dawes Lane West at Dawes Road will be closed to traffic for most of the project’s duration, and motorists will be redirected to the bypass lane. Except for brief periods when utility companies will be relocating their lines, work will proceed without the need for detours except for the Dawes Lane West leg. “This will be a great asset for drivers in the area. We know that there is a significant decrease in accidents with a roundabout and the chances for a head-on accident are greatly reduced,” said Mobile County Commissioner Merceria Ludgood. “Traffic should flow more smoothly. “There will be fewer stops and starts at the intersection, which makes travel easier and is better for gas mileage,” said Mobile County Commissioner Connie Hudson. Hosea O. Weaver & Sons Inc., was awarded the job, with a low bid of $955,174. |
